Biography

Actress Chelsea Staub became the envy of millions of teenage girls when she was cast as the female lead in “JONAS” (Disney Channel, 2009– ), playing the stylist and best friend of pop sensation, the Jonas Brothers. Though the Arizona-born actress had few acting credits on her resume when she landed the role, she managed to wow producers with her sunny personality and girl-next-door charm, which helped make Staub a teen star overnight. Prior to “Jonas,” the actress starred in “Bratz: The Movie” (2007), in which she was a scheming cheerleader who breaks up the four main characters’ friendship. Whether playing a villain on film or a stylish teen on the small screen, Staub possessed the markings of a true star by always keeping audiences intrigued.

Chelsea Kane Staub was born on Sept. 15, 1988 in Phoenix, AZ, and raised the only child of John and Becky Staub. The future star said the best memories of her childhood were spent outdoors rolling in the green grass, building forts in her backyard and swimming in the pool. She attended Mohave Middle School, where she was student body president and member of the cheer team. Staub was also a member of the Valley Youth Theatre. Her very first role was in an ensemble children’s play called “The Reluctant Dragon.” Having been hooked by performing on stage, she went on to appear in productions of “The Secret Garden,” “Peter Pan,” “Oliver” and “The Sound of Music.” In 1996, she joined the National Broadway tour of “Showboat,” starring Mr. C himself, Tom Bosley.
After attending Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Staub moved to Los Angeles to pursue a fulltime acting career. She soon landed her first onscreen role – albeit a supporting one – in “Arizona Summer” (2003), a family-oriented adventure about two brothers and their friends attending their first year of summer camp. The movie also featured another future Disney Channel star, David Henrie. Meanwhile, she made her television debut on the short-lived sitcom about a dysfunctional family, “Cracking Up” (Fox, 2004). She followed that by reuniting with Henrie when she guest-starred on his series, “Wizards of Waverly Place” (Disney Channel, 2007 –), in a 2008 episode called “The Supernatural.”
In her first feature, “Bratz: The Movie,” Staub played the film’s primary villain Meredith Baxter Dimly, the head girl at a high school who tries to put everyone into cliques, but runs into trouble with four independent-minded girls, known as “the BRATZ,” who won’t be so easily classified. The actress also showcased her musical talent, singing the songs “Fabulous” and “It’s All About Me” for the film’s soundtrack. Meanwhile, the buzz surrounding Staub began in earnest when she was photographed shopping in 2008 with Joe Jonas, front man for the ubiquitous teen group, the Jonas Brothers. Blog sites and supermarket tabloids reported the two as being an item, which they both of course denied. That same year, Staub starred in the Disney Channel original movie, “Minutemen” (2008), playing a high school cheerleader who becomes the object of affection of a high school nerd (Jason Dolley) after he builds a time machine with his two outcast friends in order to right the wrongs of the past.
Fans went wild after Disney Channel announced teen hit makers the Jonas Brothers were going to star in a comedy series for the network. Though the pilot was filmed in 2007, the project was temporarily put on hold when the Writers Guild strike stalled the entertainment industry later that year. Filming resumed in September 2008, after which the show premiered in May 2009 with Staub cast as the group’s peppy stylist and best friend, Stella Malone. Reportedly, Staub beat out singer Demi Lovato and fellow “JONAS” costar Nicole Anderson for the role. Staub’s sunny-and-sweet character was written with every Jonas fan in mind, as she offered advice on fashion, girls and high school to the sibling rockers. Viewers loved it, leading the actress to a nomination for Choice TV Breakout Star Female at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.
